Page 1 of 4 The birth of your baby set into motion extreme physical, hormonal, and lifestyle changes, so it's normal to feel out of sorts, to cry more than usual, and to feel nervous or overwhelmed afterward. For most women, these "baby blues" go away within a couple of weeks after Baby's birth; but for 10-15% of women, these feelings deepen into true sadness and a detached feeling that continues for weeks or months after the birth, or that surfaces sometime later during Baby's first year. This is postpartum depression (PPD).
